The Canada Water development is celebrating a significant milestone, with the building at Plot A2 on Deal Porters Way having reached full height.
Plot A2 will provide a brand-new leisure centre, over 180,000 sq ft of new workspace which will be known as the Dock Shed, and the first part of a buzzing new high street offering local people new places to enjoy a drink or a delicious meal.
We are pleased to share that the new Council-run leisure centre will be known as the Canada Water Leisure Centre. This new facility will host a wide range of activities for people who live and spend time in the area, to help local people live active and healthy lives. Once complete, the Canada Water Leisure Centre will include a new eight-lane, 25m swimming pool, a learner pool, a four-court sports hall, a 150+ station gym, two dance studios (one of which includes a flexible space for soft play), and a spin studio.
The design for Plot A2 takes its inspiration from the historic ‘deal’ (timber) sheds of its dockside setting.
British Land puts high priority on providing services to support existing residents, as well as those who will move into the area as the development grows. It is helping local people of all ages and backgrounds find employment on and around the site, through its local service ‘Canada Water Connect’. The construction of Plot A2 has seen Mace employ eight previously unemployed people from the Southwark area to date, and this is expected to increase by the end of the year. To find out more and access the many opportunities currently available, to list jobs and training opportunities you are offering locally, or to register for updates, visit www.canadawater.co.uk/connect or email [email protected].
The development is being built by contractors Mace. On Wednesday 14th June, a “topping-out” ceremony was held to celebrate this construction milestone.
