Canada Dock Boardwalk – opening party!

As part of the revitalisation of the historic Canada Dock, we’ve been building a brand-new boardwalk across the water. Designed by world-renowned architect Asif Khan, the 170m striking red timber structure allows people to traverse the dock by stepping from timber to timber, following in the footsteps of the rafters who hopped between floating deal planks in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The new boardwalk is part of our revitalisation of the dock as a home for wildlife and a space for people to relax and will provide a way to get close to the wetland habitat we’ve been creating in partnership with the London Wildlife Trust.
After months of work, the boardwalk is now ready to open – and we’d love the community to join us to be among the first to cross it!
When: Saturday 2nd November
Time: 3:30pm
Location: meet in Deal Porter Square
An afternoon of family-friendly fun will mark this milestone with a carnival procession and giant wildlife puppets, jugglers, face painting, bubble artists, and lantern & bee-making workshops bringing entertainment for all ages.
There will also be treats to tantalise the tastebuds, with popcorn and candyfloss and for the grown-ups, a bar run by local cocktail connoisseurs Strongman’s Tipple.
To kick things off, we’ll have a special guest to cut the ribbon and officially open the boardwalk. And the event will be co-ordinated with a switch-on of the first of the winter lights, four large 3D stars that will shine on into the new year.
In celebration of the wetland habitat created within the dock, the theme for the celebrations is wildlife. We are encouraging guests to join in with our puppet performers by coming dressed in costumes that celebrate our local wildlife – from birds to bees to trees!
