Surrey Quays Leisure Park to close in September

With the new Tesco Extra supermarket and 384 new homes coming to Zone G of the Canada Water development, September will see the closure of Surrey Quays Leisure Park  which includes the Odeon cinema, Hollywood Bowl and Pizza Hut. The redevelopment of the leisure park was approved by Southwark Council in early autumn last year.

The cinema, bowling and Pizza Hut are due to vacate the site by the 18th September which was agreed to ensure they could remain open during the school summer holidays. Their individual closing dates will vary depending on business requirements.

We appreciate the closure of these facilities will impact some people’s jobs. While job transfers or redundancies are a matter for the individual businesses to discuss with their employees, British Land will be offering support through Canada Water Connect, the service that helps connect people with employment, training and other opportunities on the development.

We also understand these facilities may be missed by those who used them. Across the development, we remain committed to delivering a variety of leisure and entertainment options along with shops, restaurants and community spaces.  Following the Outline Planning Permission granted in May 2020, we plan to expand the area's current offerings to around one million square feet — three times the size of Surrey Quays Shopping Centre – so as to improve the entertainment options and job opportunities available to people locally.
